Bringing culture and storytelling into a visual experience

Travesías con Sabor is a culinary storytelling project centered around culture, tradition, and connection. The goal was to create a visual identity that reflects the richness of Caribbean cuisine while capturing the meaning behind each dish.

This project focused on translating cultural experiences into a cohesive and engaging design system.

01  OVERVIEW

Telling stories through culture, food, and design

This project explores how design can preserve and share cultural narratives. Each element was created to reflect vibrancy and emotion while maintaining a clear and consistent identity.

I approached this as a storytelling experience, connecting visuals, language, and meaning into one cohesive system.
02 THE CHALLENGE

Balancing authenticity with a modern perspective

The main challenge was representing culture in a way that felt genuine while still being visually engaging for a contemporary audience.

Every decision needed to respect tradition while maintaining clarity, structure, and accessibility.
03 VISUAL IDENTITY

Building a system rooted in culture

The identity draws from natural elements, tropical color palettes, and cultural textures. These elements create a vibrant and expressive visual language.

At the same time, structure ensures the system remains consistent across different formats and applications.
04 LOGO DESIGN

Capturing identity through form and symbol

The logo began with hand-drawn sketches exploring movement, flavor, and cultural symbolism.

Through refinement, the final mark became a clear and expressive representation of the brand’s identity.
05 EDITORIAL EXPERIENCE

Designing an immersive storytelling experience

The editorial design allowed the project to fully come to life. Layout, typography, and imagery work together to create a strong narrative flow.

Each page guides the viewer through the story while maintaining clarity and visual interest.
06 RECIPE SYSTEM

Turning recipes into a visual system

The recipe cards were designed to balance clarity and personality. They present information in a structured way while still reflecting the overall identity.

This ensures they function as part of a larger system rather than standalone pieces.
07 BRAND APPLICATIONS

Extending the experience beyond the page

The identity was expanded into merchandise and promotional materials to show how it exists in real world contexts.

These applications reinforce the brand and allow it to connect with users beyond the original format.
08 REFLECTION

Bringing everything together

The final result is a culturally driven brand that blends storytelling, design, and experience into one cohesive system. Each element works together to create a meaningful and immersive visual narrative. This project taught me how to design with intention and cultural awareness, focusing on meaning as much as visuals.

Reflection:
I realized how important it is to approach culturally inspired design with care and purpose. This project pushed me to think beyond aesthetics and focus on storytelling and representation. If I were to continue developing this project, I would expand into digital storytelling and interactive experiences.
